The journey

'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step' - Lao-Tzu

This phrase is often quoted. It is a great thing to say when you believe in taking small steps, which I do. But it also means that the journey could be long.
And for certain projects, aims and aspirations .. things don't always happen straight away! For example, if my long term aim is to make money from my blog, I cannot do it overnight. There are several steps I would need to take if that were to ever happen, and it wouldn't be easy, nor would I know exactly what steps to take at the moment.

Sometimes we don't know how long the road ahead will be, or if we've even taken the right road. I think you have to listen to your heart to know what is right. But the road ahead takes PATIENCE! Sometimes I can feel that I wish I had 'got going' sooner and that fear hadn't held me back so much .. but we all go at our own pace. Comparing myself to other people is something that tempts me on a constant basis.

Whilst long term planning can be beneficial, what I think works for me best is asking what I can do NOW to move towards my goal, even if it may be just a baby step. Not to be too focused on the end result, and enjoy the journey - easier said than done at times, I am not a naturally patient person.

So it's time to start enjoying the ride. Get clear on what you want - it needs to be something you are passionate about, otherwise you are unlikely to keep going when times get tough.
What steps can you take at this moment? Even deciding to do nothing can be a step in the right direction.

I would love to know your thoughts on this subject.

  1. Hi Andy, yes easier said than done most of the time.Patience often feels like a cuss word to me LOL And yes one step at a time. With blogs, I think it depends what niche your going for, and its taking me 6 years to get to the point where its coming together, so yes long time. Making money off it? Hmmm.. time will tell. Good luck Andy!

  2. Hey Kelly, I think I've been blogging for a similar amount of time, but had several different blogs, most of which I deleted. Not sure yet if I actually want to make money from blogging but certainly want to get more followers.

A few things this week has taught me

Well well. This one really has been one of the toughest weeks in a good while. It's pretty rare for me to get too depressed these days, ...
