Walking - Day 23 of A to Z Blogging Challenge - Things I Love

At present, I do not do much running, I don't own a bike, so walking is really my main form of exercise. At the moment, without a car and living on benefits, there's more of a reason to do a bit of walking - and let's be honest, having a car can definitely make you lazy!

I am blessed to live in an area which has plenty of decent walks available and great scenery to see. One of my favourite walks is to Castle Hill (below).

There are a number of ways to get there, but I particularly enjoy walking through the pretty village of Almondbury en route (below).

Other great local walks include from Huddersfield to the nearby town of Brighouse, where you get to see some rather nice houses along the way, and recently, I enjoyed walking to the pretty village of Longwood and then walking down to a reservoir just below the village.

Walking can be great for alleviating stress. Sometimes, I will go for a walk on an evening if I've had a bit of a down day. I can't remember feeling worse for having been on a walk - the longer walks can be a bit of a leg ache, but I haven't yet been on any that have completely worn me out - the longest walk I've done recently was around 9 miles, a circular walk taking in a few villages.
Walks don't have to be long, either. Sometimes, a walk into town combined with a visit to the library is all I need.

On that note, I might go for a walk shortly ..
